GCSE Maths dashboards β initial ideas for your feedback
These are early draft concepts for how Sprout9 could turn pupils' everyday revision into live, actionable insight β one platform with four tailored views for senior leaders, maths teachers, pupils, and parents. Nothing here is final: we're sharing it with schools precisely so the dashboards are shaped by the people who'll use them. All feedback, big or small, is very welcome.
About Sprout9
Sprout9 is a gamified GCSE maths revision platform with examiner-written questions across AQA, Edexcel and OCR at both Foundation and Higher tiers. Pupils revise through game modes they genuinely enjoy β and because every answer is tagged to one of 150+ granular sub-topics, the school gets an unusually precise, live picture of where each pupil actually stands.
- One platform, four front doors: the same data powers a distinct view for SLT, maths teachers, pupils and parents.
- Levels 1β9 map directly to GCSE grades 1β9, so game progress translates straight into a live predicted grade.
- Calculator / non-calculator tagging on every question surfaces hidden weaknesses that whole-paper scores miss.

Dashboard 1 of 4
SLT dashboard β whole-school view
Designed for senior leaders who need the headline numbers without the noise: how engaged is the cohort, where is the cohort heading, and how does that compare to targets? Every figure updates live as pupils revise β no waiting for the next mock series.
| KPI | Why it matters |
| Active pupils | How many pupils are actually using the platform β the foundation every other number rests on. |
| Average predicted grade | A single cohort-health number, tracked against the September baseline and school target. |
| Grade β€3 / 4+ / 5+ / 7+ percentages | The accountability thresholds SLT report against β visible continuously, not just after mocks. |
| School engagement | Weekly active rate and questions answered β an early-warning signal that arrives well before grades move. |
| Overall class mastery | Average topic mastery by class, so leaders can compare classes and target support where it's needed. |

Dashboard 2 of 4
Maths teacher dashboard β class view
Built to answer two questions at a glance: where does each pupil stand? and who needs intervention, on exactly what? Because every question is tagged to a granular sub-topic, the dashboard doesn't just say "struggling with algebra" β it identifies the specific sub-skill (and prerequisite gap) behind it, and groups pupils who share it.
| KPI / Element | Why it matters |
| Class topic heatmap | One glance shows which topic strands the class has secured and which need reteaching β ideal for planning the next lesson. |
| At-risk pupils | Flags pupils falling below their own target trajectory β personalised risk, not just "below class average". |
| Grade distribution | Shows the shape of the class, not just the average β instantly reveals a long tail or a squeezed middle. |
| Last activity | Disengagement precedes underachievement. Teachers see who hasn't revised recently before it shows in results. |
| Intervention list | Auto-generated groups of pupils who share the same gap β ready-made intervention sessions with zero admin. |

Pupil dashboard β personal view
The tone here is deliberately different: encouraging, game-flavoured, and first-person. Pupils should feel motivated, not assessed β every metric is framed as progress toward their next level, never a deficit. This is what keeps them coming back, which is what generates the data behind every other dashboard.
| KPI / Element | Why it matters for pupils |
| Predicted grade (live) | The number pupils care most about β makes game progress feel real and meaningful. |
| Progress (Level 1β9 journey) | Levels map directly to GCSE grades, so the path to their target grade is visual and concrete. |
| Streak | The daily habit driver β little-and-often revision beats last-minute cramming, and streaks make it stick. |
| XP | The core reward loop: every question answered earns XP, with bonuses for speed, streaks and special questions. |
| Topics mastered | A colour-coded topic map shows where they stand without feeling like a report card β "needs work", never "failed". |
| Next recommended topic | Converts data into action, with prerequisite hints in plain language ("try Pythagoras before Trig"). |

Each pupil sees only their own data. Progress is always framed positively ("needs work", never "failed"), and social features such as leaderboards are optional and can be switched off per class or per pupil.

Parent view β read-only summary
Parents consistently say the same thing: "I want to help, but I don't know where they are or what to do." This read-only view answers both β a simple weekly picture of their child's progress, plus practical, non-technical suggestions for supporting revision at home. No extra work is created for teachers: it's generated automatically from the same data.
| Element | Why it matters for parents |
| Predicted grade & trend | A clear, honest answer to "how are they doing?" β with direction of travel, not just a snapshot. |
| This week's activity | Time spent, questions answered and streak β so parents can encourage consistency, the biggest driver of results. |
| Topics mastered / in progress | Plain-English topic progress replaces the vague "revision is going fine". |
| How to help this week | Specific, doable suggestions β no maths knowledge required from the parent. |
| Weekly email digest | The summary arrives in the parent's inbox every Sunday β no login required, no app to remember. |

- Strong: Percentages, Ratio, Angles, StatisticsSecure
- Improving: Graphs, Sequences, ProbabilityBuilding
- Current focus: Indices, Trigonometry, 3D shapesFocus
Predicted grade has risen from 4 to 5 since September. Next milestone: Level 6 (Grade 6 questions unlock).
π How you can help this week
- β°Consistency beats cramming β 15 minutes a day is more effective than a long weekend session. Aisha's streak shows it's becoming a habit.
- π―Ask about her current focus topics (Indices and Trigonometry) β just showing interest measurably boosts effort.
- πCelebrate the streak, not just the grade β effort she controls, results follow.
- π
The next Sunday summary will show whether the Trigonometry focus is paying off.
π Parent access
Parents see a read-only summary of their own child only β never other pupils, class comparisons or leaderboards. Delivered via a secure link or weekly email digest; no separate account is required.

How a pilot would work
All four views are powered by the same platform and the same pupil activity β there is no extra data entry for staff. A pilot is deliberately light-touch:
| Step | What happens | Effort for the school |
| 1 Β· Set-up | Class lists imported; pupils receive logins; exam board and tier configured per class. | One class-list export |
| 2 Β· Launch | Pupils start revising in lessons and at home; dashboards begin populating from day one. | One launch lesson |
| 3 Β· Review | After 4β6 weeks: review engagement, predicted-grade movement and teacher feedback together. | One review meeting |
